International Radio: Belize and Russia
In today's society, radio is not as popular as it was in the past. Radio has been overthrown by social media. Radio is still important to today's society but not as prevalent. For those that still enjoy radio, it not that far a reach. Radio stations are still very active. Whereas if some individuals can not get access to the Internet for social media, radio is free at your disposal. In the near future, most will not know where radio will lie with all this new technology, but it solely depends on the radio listeners to continue the radio industry.
In today's paper, I will review two countries who still prevalently tune into radio. The two countries are Belize and Russia. We will see how these two countries handle radio and how the countries approach radio. The first to be examined is Belize. Belize is a nation on the eastern coast of Central America, with Caribbean Sea shorelines to the east and dense jungle to the west. Offshore, the massive Belize Barrier Reef, dotted with hundreds of low-lying islands called cayes, hosts rich marine life (Belize Wiki). Radio was the first broadcast medium, with major changes occurring when American cable was introduced in the early 1990’s. There are four main newspapers, eight television stations and 33 licensed radio stations. There are no daily newspapers (Public Media Alliance). Of those 33 radio stations are only 25 are still currently on air today. I will discuss one major radio station in Belize. The first one is Love FM. Love FM is a radio station based in Belize City, operating since February 14, 1993. It broadcasts family-oriented programs and mature, contemporary style music. Love FM was the first private radio station to cover the entire nation of Belize (Love FM Wiki). Love FM broadcast live at 6 FM stations. The main source FM station is 95.1 FM. Love FM also feature various radio shows with numerous host. It starts with a morning show hosted by 5 panelists. It airs from Monday-Friday from 6:30am to 9:00am. The morning show coverage features a lot of topics regarding news such as Covid-19 status, daily news reports, and weather. The morning show on Love FM is one of Belize's longest running morning shows. The next radio show is 101 Degrees Fahrenheit. This show is actually based out of California but transits to Belize for live broadcast. It airs on Saturdays at 2pm. The show features an radio personality that provides feedback on the genres of music and serenades the listeners. The host is Brian Mossiah. A radio show that also feature weekdays as well as the weekends is called Late Night With Donovan Reneau. It airs Sundays-Fridays 12am-6am. This radio show provides musical entertainment from the past to fall asleep to or wake up in the morning. If you are a fan of old school R&B and country, this is the radio station for you. Love FM radio station is featured in Belize but it can also be picked up in Taiwan.
Love FM official website produces various things about the radio station. It provides from how you can get in touch with radio station for their business hours or just curious about news in Belize. The red and blue format on Love FM website provides an inviting manner for onlookers to check the website. The red really correlates with the word Love FM to show a warm and homey website to visit.
You can also visit Love FM Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube. Love FM is one of Belize's most prominent radio stations and many Belizeans enjoy the station.
Russia's radio can be found very different from Belize. Not only because of the language but how they can deliver radio. Russia, or the Russian Federation, is a transcontinental country located in Eastern Europe and Northern Asia. The capital is Moscow. Russia's radio in the past was very restricted and in constant surveillance but after 2012, radio became very popularized. Now radio in Russia is welcomed. Radio broadcasting in Russia is developing with a comparatively good business dynamic. As in other media sectors, ownership of radio stations is either state or private, and the key players are the state-owned channels with news-and-music content. A key radio station in Russia is Radio Mayak. Radio Mayak is a radio broadcasting company in Russia, owned by VGTRK. Mayak is the Russian word for "lighthouse" or "beacon". As well as Radio Mayak proper, the company is also responsible for the youth music channel Radio Yunost. Radio Mayak website is in Russian language but can be translated into English. The layout of the website is dull in my opinion. Besides the showing of the controls of the on air video, the website shows series of articles in white background. It could be more lively like their logo. I will say the website provides pivotal information about Radio Mayak. The website gives various things about Russian TV to broadcast radio. There are many radio networks A-Z to visit. It just doesn't provide radio on news but also many podcasts. Radio Mayak also has a Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Mayak YouTube. Although Russia and Belize broadcast their radio in many ways, one thing is certain is that radio in these countries still have an impact and influence to stay relevant.
